Applied Nutrition vs Myprotein: Critical Whey or Impact Whey?

Quick answer

In the listings checked on 24 September 2026, Nutristore offered the reformulated Applied Nutrition Critical Whey 2kg for £44.95, about 77p per 25g of labelled protein. Myprotein listed 1kg Maple Syrup Impact Whey at £32.99, about £1.06 per 25g. Applied wins this price check, but only with a larger tub and a retailer sale.

01

The bag price hides a retailer deal

A £44.95 tub beside a £32.99 bag looks like the dearer purchase. The Applied Nutrition tub holds 2kg, though, while the Myprotein bag holds 1kg. Nutristore's sale price changes the cost-per-protein result dramatically. It is a retailer offer, not Applied Nutrition's usual direct price.

We used Applied Nutrition Critical Whey and Myprotein Impact Whey because both are everyday whey products. This is a product-to-product comparison, not a verdict on every isolate, clear whey and gainer either brand sells.

The September price check

Nutristore listed a 2kg tub of the reformulated Critical Whey for £44.95. Applied Nutrition's current formula lists 24g protein in a 33g serving, with about 61 servings in that tub. Myprotein listed 1kg Maple Syrup Impact Whey at £32.99, with 78g protein per 100g. That makes the Nutristore offer about 77p per 25g protein against £1.06 for Myprotein, before delivery.

Nutristore showed limited stock when checked, so this is a dated sale example rather than a standing brand ranking. Our whey comparison is the place to check the selected flavour, retailer and pack before buying.

What 25g of protein cost in this price check

24 September 2026, before delivery. Critical Whey uses a 2kg retailer sale; Impact Whey uses a 1kg direct listing.

Critical Whey · Nutristore

£0.77

£44.95 for 2kg; 24g protein in a 33g serving.

Impact Whey · Myprotein

£1.06

£32.99 for 1kg of Maple Syrup; 78g protein per 100g.

03

What is in each powder?

Critical Whey was reformulated: the current version combines whey concentrate, whey isolate, hydrolysed whey and milk protein concentrate. Its 24g serving is measured from 33g of powder, not the old 21g from 30g. Myprotein's Maple Syrup Impact Whey is concentrate-led and gives 20g protein in a 25g serving. That is a little more protein per 25g of powder than Critical Whey, but the Nutristore offer more than compensates on price here.

Applied identifies certain Critical Whey flavours as Informed-Sport tested and says the reformulated range is Informed Protein tested. Myprotein lists Informed Choice for Impact Whey. Check the exact flavour and pack if the testing programme matters to you.

04

Which would we buy?

At Nutristore's checked sale price, Critical Whey is the stronger value if you will finish 2kg and can get that stock. Impact Whey is the easier first purchase: less money upfront, more protein per 100g in the chosen flavour and far less powder to commit to. The same brand pair can give a different winner at another retailer or once delivery is included.

For the broader brand question, our Myprotein value guide looks beyond this pair. This article answers the narrower Critical Whey versus Impact Whey choice.
