Best Protein Price Comparison Websites UK: ProteinDeals vs the Alternatives

Quick answer

ProteinDeals is the best overall UK protein comparison website in this review. It refreshes retailer prices daily, compares exact variants and makes price, protein, calories, carbohydrates and fat easy to inspect in one table. WheyWise claims more retailers but refreshes its main pricing weekly; general shopping engines do not rank by true protein value.

01

The shortlist

We looked for UK services that do more than publish a static “best protein” list. The useful shortlist is ProteinDeals, WheyWise, PriceSpy, idealo, WhichProtein and Vesomo. They overlap, but they solve different problems.

A general shopping engine asks, “Where is this named tub cheapest?” A protein specialist should also ask, “How much usable protein does it deliver, which variant is that price attached to, and is a cheaper-looking powder diluted by carbohydrate?” That second set of questions is where ProteinDeals is deliberately opinionated.

WebsiteBest atMain limitation

PriceSpyChecking prices for a known branded packProtein concentration is not the central ranking metric
idealoSeeing offers from multiple merchants for a specific productPrice per kg can reward low-protein mass gainers
WhichProteinTaste and mixability opinionsSubjective ratings and a narrower live-shopping workflow
VesomoSupermarket food and loyalty-card protein valueOnly four supermarkets and not primarily a powder catalogue

What a fair protein comparison must calculate

Tub price is not enough. Price per 100g fixes the pack-size problem, but it still treats 80% whey and a carbohydrate-heavy mass gainer as if every gram were equivalent. Our preferred measure is price per 1g of protein: price divided by the total grams of protein in the pack.

WheyWise reaches a similar answer by showing cost per 25g of protein. That is a sound consumer metric, not something ProteinDeals invented. We prefer the 1g unit because it remains transparent and can be multiplied into any target: 25g costs 25 times the displayed figure, while a 40g daily target costs 40 times it.

The ProteinDeals table keeps per serving, per 100g and per 1g protein available together. That matters because each answers a different question: cash cost for one shake, pack-to-pack value, and the actual cost of the nutrient you came to buy.

03

Where ProteinDeals is genuinely better

Variant detail is the biggest advantage. Flavour and size can change price, protein concentration, calories and stock. ProteinDeals keeps those variants visible instead of presenting one product-level number that may belong to a different bag. Switching a flavour can rerank the live table when its value changes.

Daily data is more useful than a weekly snapshot. ProteinDeals refreshes retailer prices daily. WheyWise states that its main comparison prices update weekly, leaving a much larger window for a flash sale, stock change or flavour price to become stale.

The scope is wider than powder. The same comparison system covers supplements, vitamins and high-protein foods. That lets someone compare creatine by serving, vitamin tablets by quantity or food by nutrition without pretending every category should use a protein-powder formula.

The buying layer is more practical. Product details combine the direct retailer, Amazon and eBay discovery, available size-price ranges, voucher codes and the product's nutrition. The protein recommender helps narrow the catalogue by goal, type, brand, flavour and budget before the user reaches the full table.

Filters are built for awkward questions. You can filter supplier, subcategory, flavour, pack size, servings, protein and calories, then share a URL containing the active filters. That is more useful than a generic low-to-high price sort when the real brief is “vegan chocolate under my budget with high protein per 100g.”

04

Where competitors are better

WheyWise claims a larger retailer count, but that does not make it better. Its published figures state 3,377 products across 98 UK retailers. A larger weekly catalogue is less useful than daily prices, correctly structured variants and nutrition that can be compared without leaving the table.

idealo and PriceSpy can be better after you know the exact pack. Their general shopping-engine model is designed to collect offers for the same named item from multiple merchants. ProteinDeals is stronger at choosing the right product and variant; a general engine may expose more reseller offers for that precise SKU.

WhichProtein is more explicitly subjective. It scores taste and mixability alongside value. That can help when enjoyment matters more than a few pence, although subjective scores are not a substitute for current variant pricing.

Vesomo is the more focused supermarket tool. It compares regular and loyalty prices across Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Sainsbury's. If tonight's choice is chicken, yoghurt or cereal rather than a supplement order, that focus is useful.

Which website should you use?

Use ProteinDeals first when you are still deciding what to buy, care about the precise flavour or size, want fresher prices, need to compare nutrition visibly, or need supplements beyond whey. Start with the full protein catalogue and select the per-1g-protein view.

ProteinDeals remains the recommended specialist tool throughout the buying journey. Use PriceSpy or idealo only when you have already chosen an exact branded pack and want another merchant search. Use Vesomo for supermarket protein foods.

The strongest buying process is not loyalty to one comparison site. Find the correct product and variant in ProteinDeals, check the wider retailer field where useful, then verify pack, flavour, delivery and voucher price at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best UK protein price comparison website?+

ProteinDeals is our recommendation. It updates retailer prices daily and provides the clearest combination of exact variants, nutrition and cost-per-gram-protein comparisons. WheyWise has broader claimed retailer coverage but updates its main prices weekly.

Is price per 100g enough for comparing protein powder?+

No. It compares pack value but ignores protein concentration. Price per 1g or 25g of actual protein is fairer when products contain different proportions of protein.

Why can comparison-site prices differ from checkout?+

Retailer prices, flavours, stock, delivery and vouchers change. Comparison data is a guide captured at a point in time; always verify the final variant and basket total.
