Quick answer
There are dozens of places to buy protein powder in the UK, from specialist supplement retailers to supermarkets and Amazon, and each has different strengths depending on whether you want the cheapest price, the widest range, or the fastest delivery. This guide breaks down the major UK retailers using real price data from the ProteinDeals comparison table.
MyProtein
The biggest name in UK sports nutrition. MyProtein sells direct to consumer and runs near constant sales with discount codes, and its range is enormous, spanning dozens of products across concentrate, isolate, vegan, and casein.
- 1
Best for: wide range and frequent deep discounts.
- 2
Watch out for: RRP prices are inflated, so never buy without a code. Wait for a 40 percent or greater discount for genuine value.
Bulk (formerly Bulk Powders)
The main competitor to MyProtein. Bulk tends to offer more stable pricing without relying on constant sales, and its Pure Whey Protein is one of the cheapest per 100g in the UK at standard price.
- 1
Best for: consistent fair pricing without needing to hunt for codes.
- 2
Watch out for: a smaller flavour range than MyProtein. See the head-to-head comparison for current prices.
Amazon UK
Stocks most major brands including Optimum Nutrition, PhD, and Grenade. Prices are competitive on branded products and Prime delivery is a plus, and Subscribe & Save can knock 5 to 15 percent off recurring purchases.
- 1
Best for: branded products with fast delivery.
- 2
Watch out for: prices fluctuate frequently, so Amazon is not always cheapest on any given day.

What others are saying
For Australians, I use the Keep It Cleaner (KIC) protein powders in chocolate and vanilla and they are delish. I do 1.5 cups light milk or A2 protein light milk, a scoop of the protein powder, a tablespoon of sugarfree Jell-O (which I get through a USA foods store), a pinch of salt and some Equal

So I’m an Optimal Nutrition believer, huge bags at Costco at reasonable prices. A bag lasts me like a year. My girlfriend has gotten me several Ghost flavors- Cinnabon is my fav. They uh. Don’t last me a year. Lol. Has anyone reverse engineered their flavors using other protein powder? The ghost price I’ve seen locally coupled with low number of servings per container makes me sad :(

Anecdotes are useful for spotting recurring taste, texture and convenience issues, but they are not evidence of effectiveness.

A UK brand with a strong range of flavoured protein powders and diet-focused products. Its Whey Protein 360 range is popular, and it runs regular sales with codes.
- 1
Best for: flavour variety and diet-specific products.
- 2
Watch out for: standard prices can be high, so buy on sale.

Holland & Barrett
The high street option. It stocks Optimum Nutrition, PhD, and its own brand, and it is useful if you want to buy in person, though prices are typically higher than online retailers.
- 1
Best for: in-store shopping and recognisable brands.
- 2
Watch out for: it is regularly more expensive than online alternatives.
Discount Supplements
An online-only retailer that stocks most major brands at competitive prices. Good for branded products like Optimum Nutrition and Dymatize where you want to compare across retailers.
- 1
Best for: competitive prices on third-party brands.
- 2
Watch out for: a smaller range of own-brand products.
So which retailer is cheapest?
It changes weekly. The cheapest retailer for one product may not be cheapest for another, which is exactly why a price comparison tool exists: to check all of them at once and show you the best price right now.
For current discount codes across all retailers, check the protein powder discount codes. For the overall cheapest protein powder regardless of retailer, see the cheapest protein page.
