Quick answer

MyProtein Impact Whey Chocolate Smooth is our everyday chocolate pick; Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate is the premium mixability choice. Start with 1kg and let live cost per 25g protein decide whether the premium is justified.

01

Chocolate is a category, not one flavour

MyProtein Impact Whey Chocolate Smooth is our everyday chocolate pick; Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate is the premium mixability pick. Chocolate Brownie is sweeter and better treated as a dessert flavour, while Chocolate Smooth works more reliably in water, milk, oats and baking.

Buy 1kg before committing to a larger bag. If Gold Standard costs over 15% more per 25g protein, we choose MyProtein; if Bulk's chocolate option is over 10% cheaper than MyProtein, Bulk becomes the value buy. Judge the named flavour, not the brand average.

Read the chocolate label in four passes

First, check protein per 100g: 70g+ is a reasonable concentrate starting point and 85g+ a useful isolate benchmark. Treat both as sensible reference points, not an absolute quality law. Next, check whether cocoa actually appears in the ingredients and how the powder is sweetened. Natural cocoa isn't guaranteed to taste better than a well-designed flavour system; preference and dose matter more than the source.

Then compare normalised price. Price per 100g fixes mismatched pack and scoop sizes, while cost per 25g protein goes one step further and adjusts for the nutrition difference between flavours too. Finally, check allergens, and buy a small pack first if sweetness levels are hard to predict from the description alone.

03

Concentrate: the low-cost chocolate starting point

Whey concentrate is usually the least expensive chocolate format available. MyProtein, Bulk and Protein Works all compete heavily here, and a promotion can reorder who's cheapest within days.

Filter the whey concentrate comparison for chocolate and compare the final delivered price directly. A 2.5kg or 5kg bag often lowers unit cost noticeably, but only once you already know the flavour is one you'll actually finish.

Is the extreme milk chocolate powder the most tasty chocolate protein powder out there?

I haven’t seen anyone mention Nurri protein. It’s easily my favorite. It has a smooth texture and blends really well without any stabilizers. It tastes like chocolate milk

What (lower calorie) tricks do you use to make the Creami less “proteiny” tasting (you know, mostly the powders always worsten the taste)……….? For me an effective solution is to add freeze dried strawberries before a respin (or 2). It works very well for fruity protein powders (I.e. strawberry) and is very effective in chocolate protein based Creamis as well. What other tricks do you have like this?

04

Isolate: pay for a nutritional reason

Chocolate isolates offer higher protein density and less lactose than concentrate, though historic premiums of roughly 30-50% aren't guaranteed to hold at today's checkout. Bulk, Dymatize and Optimum Nutrition are among the established options here. A live promotion and flavour-specific nutrition differences can narrow or widen that gap considerably.

Plant blends: cocoa helps, but texture still matters

Cocoa can soften the earthier notes of pea and rice, though it won't remove every trace of gritty texture. Complementary plant blends can improve amino-acid balance, but soy isolate is already a complete single-source option in its own right. Don't assume a longer ingredient list is automatically better just because it looks more sophisticated.

06

Flavour names are clues, not specifications

"Double chocolate" and "chocolate brownie" usually signal a richer or sweeter direction than plain chocolate, but brands define these names entirely for themselves, and there's no shared standard. Nutrition isn't necessarily identical between them either: cocoa level, inclusions and flavour ingredients can shift protein, carbohydrate and calorie figures within the same product range.

Compare the exact labels before choosing whichever variant happens to be discounted. When Chocolate Smooth and Double Chocolate share equivalent nutrition and price, personal preference should decide; when they differ, calculate value using the flavour you'll actually be drinking.

A three-step live-price check

Chocolate prices move constantly with promotions, stock levels and codes. Run this short routine at the moment you actually buy:

  1. 1

Visit the cheapest protein powder page for the overall best value across all types.

  2. 2

Check the live protein powder discount codes that can bring the price down further.

  3. 3

Buy in larger bag sizes (2.5kg or 5kg) for the lowest per-100g cost.

08

Why prices need checking again at checkout

ProteinDeals checks prices regularly across 85+ UK retailers, but no refresh can guarantee a retailer hasn't already changed stock or price since that data was collected. Always confirm the final basket total before paying, rather than trusting the number you first saw.
