The main active ingredient of shilajit is fulvic acid, an organic compound with antioxidant effects, which also contributes to the normal metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates. It also contains dibenzo-α-pyrones (DBP), chromoproteins, and humic acids, which are, however, less easily absorbed by the human body.
